Your home's heating and cooling system comes as a matched package with an outdoor heat pump and an indoor air handler. The outdoor heat pump unit sits outside and provides both cooling in summer and heating in winter by reversing the flow of refrigerant to move heat into or out of your home. Inside your house - typically in the attic, basement, or utility closet - the air handler holds the blower fan and coil. It draws air from your rooms through return ducts, passes it over the coil to cool or heat it, and then blows the conditioned air back through your supply ducts into every room. Together they keep your whole house comfortable year-round.
